iPad 2 Is Here: Thinner, Lighter & Faster – Are You Buying One?

Apple’s second generation tablet – iPad 2, which was unveiled at last week's ‘Come See What 2011 Will Be Year Of’event is finally here.
iPad 2 is 33% thinner, 15% lighter than the original iPad, comes with the same 9.7 inch screen and features Apple’s new dual-core A5 chip for faster performance and better graphics, front facing camera for FaceTime and PhotoBooth and a rear facing camera that captures 720p HD video. As expected, it was available on Apple’s and AT&T’s Online store at 1:00 am PT.
It looks like there has been quite a rush to get iPad 2 as Apple as already extended shipping estimates for new orders online out to 2-3 weeks for all 18 models from 1 week when it started accepting orders.
If you want to get your hands on the shiny new gadget today then there are several options:
  • Pick it up from Apple’s retail stores from 5:00 pm
  • Pick it up from AT&T’s retail stores or select Verizon’s retail stores from 5:00 pm.
  • Pick it up from Best Buy, they are implementing a ticket based system. They will only issue tickets based on the number of iPad 2s they’ve in stock on a first-come-first-serve basis from 4:30 pm.
  • You can also buy iPad 2 at Wal-mart and Target stores but there isn’t much clarity on availability.
It looks like the lines outside most of the Apple stores are already quite long so you may be better off going to either AT&T/Verizon, Best Buy, Wal-mart or Target.
If you’re planning to buy iPad 2 with Wi-Fi+3G in the US, then you can checkout the comparison between the data plans offered by AT&T and Verizon.
Early reviews of iPad 2 have been very positive with most reviews saying that it will be difficult for competition to compete with iPad 2 not just in terms of features but also pricing.
