Revised iPhone 4 and iPod Touch Appear In Apple’s Inventory System

Right before Apple's media event scheduled for October 4th, 9 to 5 Mac reports that Apple's internal inventory systems have been updated to include revised models of the iPhone 4 and the iPod Touch in their database. The databases now include references to two tweaked iPhone 4 models and three new iPod Touch models. The iPod Touch models appear under the codename N81A, a slightly altered version of the fourth generation iPod Touch codename - N81. MacRumors also says that this codename refers to the white iPod Touch. MacRumors reports:
Apple is expected to make the black iPod touch update a quiet one, utilizing the same internal codename and SKU as the current line but with only minor changes such as an improved ambient light sensor and the addition of an oleophobic coating to reduce fingerprint smudging on the device's screen. Our information suggests that Apple has been targeting an availability date of October 13th or 14th for the new iPod touch models, although that has apparently been a bit of a shifting target.
The three models hint at the same storage capacity current generation iPod Touch devices - 8GB, 32GB and 64GB. The news plays along well with earlier rumors about Apple's iPod Touch line getting only a minor update.
Just like the iPod Touch, the tweaked iPhone 4 is marked with codename N90A, a minor change over the existing GSM iPhone 4, which is marked with codename N90. This tweaked iPhone 4 could be the 8GB version of the device, which would replace the iPhone 3GS as the new entry-level iPhone model. The two entries for the N90A iPhone 4 most likely refer to the availability of the device in white and black colors.
Additionally MacRumors' sources claim that the iPod Nano would also be updated at the media event on the fourth of October. While no specific details of the upgrade are known, the device's codename (N20A) indicates that even the iPod Nano (present codename: N20) would receive just a minor upgrade.
We can't wait to find out what Apple has in store for us at the media event next week.
